A Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Alidu<\/span> Seidu<\/span> says, the New Patriotic Party(<\/span>NPP\u2019s) flagbearer<\/span><\/span> aspirant, Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng\u2019s \u00a0statement that the party\u201cmust win\u201d the 2016 elections \u201cat all cost,\u201d shows desperation.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaying you want to win power at all cost expresses not only desperation, but also not learning lessons from what has happened within the party and within the politics of this country,\u201d Mr. Seidu<\/span><\/span> said<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that I agree with the fact that the NPP needs to win power in 2016 but I don\u2019t agreewith<\/span><\/span> the qualification that it must be done at all cost.<\/span><\/span>Unless that simple qualification at all cost is defined very well to include peaceful constitutional ways of going about it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr. Kyeremangteng<\/span><\/span> did not only emphasize the need for the party to win elections at all cost, but also stated that \u201cthe thought of losing\u201d the next Presidential election was \u201cfrightening\u201d and \u201cdifficult to contemplate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Seidu<\/span><\/span> cautioned Mr. Kyeremanteng<\/span><\/span> to be\u201dwatchful and careful of the words that he uses ahead of the party\u2019s primaries and national elections.<\/p>\n

He recalled that Nana Akufo Addo\u2019s All Die Be Die<\/i><\/b> statement was a clear example of the negative repercussions ambiguous statements could bring.<\/p>\n

A friend to Mr. Kyeremanteng<\/span><\/span>, Mr. Ohene Ntow defended Alan Kyerematen saying his comments were made in a specific context.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he[<\/span><\/span>Alan Kyeremanteng] made his comments,<\/span><\/span>he did not leave it hanging, he premised<\/span><\/span> it within a certain context ,<\/span><\/span>\u201dhe explained.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think that anybody who knows Kyeremangteng well, will conclude that Keyeremangeteng is suggesting that we do things that are illegitimate or unlawful,\u201d Mr. Ntow<\/span><\/span> added.<\/p>\n

In a speech to NPP supporters in New York, Mr. Kyeremanteng<\/span> stated that the time has come for the party to give Ghanaian voters a new Presidential Candidate instead of repeating Nana Addo as its flagbearer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Defending Mr. Kyeremanteng\u2019s<\/span><\/span> comments about Nana Akufo Addo, Mr. Ntow<\/span><\/span> said \u201cI don\u2019t think that<\/span><\/span> what Kyeremanteng said about Nana Akufo Addo was negative in any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho doesn\u2019t know that Nana Akuffo Addo was the party\u2019s candidate in 2008 and in 2012….<\/span><\/span>I don\u2019t think that it is wrong to say that we have tried Nana Addo for these two occasions and I think that there is the need to try another person\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Mr. Ntow<\/span><\/span> opined that Mr. Kyeremanteng\u2019s<\/span><\/span> comments would have only been inappropriate \u201cif he had attacked Nana Addo, insulted him or said anything negative.\u201d<\/p>\n
