The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is not fielding any candidate in the upcoming Abuakwa North by-election.<\/p>\n
According to a statement signed by the party\u2019s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party took the decision because it is \u201cstunned by the death of the late MP Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, particularly circumstances surrounding his gruesome murder that brought the nation to a standstill.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”ai70Yx6TBbyppGmzazv8NRpah7Mgai7d”]The Electoral Commission has scheduled March 29 to organize a by-election in the area following the stabbing to death of the NPP MP, JB Danquah-Adu.<\/p>\n
JB Danquah-Adu was murdered last month [February] at his Shiashie \u00a0home in Accra, where he lived with his family.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday elected Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo, a tutor of the Akosombo International School, amidst a keen contest to lead them in the by-election.<\/p>\n
The statement from the NDC further said they\u00a0share in the grief and trauma the late MP\u2019s family and constituents are going through, adding that \u201cwe don’t want to be beneficiaries of a criminal act.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NDC also urged its supporters in the constituency to “channel their efforts towards winning the seat in the November 2016 elections because Abuakwa North happens to be one of the constituencies which NDC considers winnable.”<\/p>\n
Parliamentary results<\/strong><\/p>\n The Abuakwa North seat has largely been an NPP since it was created in\u00a02004. In the last election in 2012, the late MP beat the NDC’s Victor Smith by a difference of about 6,000 votes.<\/p>\n But the NDC’s result in 2012, was an improvement from the past, considering that in 2004, the NPP won the\u00a0seat by \u00a016, 000 votes as against 7,000 votes for the NDC.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
