Bill Cosby\u2019s next court appearance in his criminal case was indefinitely postponed so a Pennsylvania appeals court can consider whether to dismiss the case.<\/p>\n
Cosby was due for a preliminary hearing in Montgomery County on March 8 to determine whether probable cause exists to move forward with the sex assault case.<\/p>\n
Lawyers for the comedian had asked a court to dismiss the case and prosecutors have, in turn, asked to shut down his appeal.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors have not yet commented on the postponement.<\/p>\n
Cosby, 78, was charged last December with aggravated indecent assault, stemming from an alleged 2004 incident involving former Temple University employee Andrea Constand.<\/p>\n
Constand claimed in 2005 that Cosby had drugged and assaulted her the year before, and eventually, they settled out of court for an undisclosed amount of money.<\/p>\n
Last month, Cosby sued Constand for breach of contract and is seeking the return of the money he paid her.<\/p>\n
Since 2014, dozens of women have accused the comedian of sexual assault and of drugging them. He is currently involved in a civil lawsuit with seven of those women.<\/p>\n
Cosby has denied all allegations made against him. Cosby\u2019s attorney, Monique Pressley, previously told ABC News, “Make no mistake, we intend to mount a vigorous defense against this unjustified charge and we expect that Mr. Cosby will be exonerated by a court of law.”<\/p>\n
If convicted of sexual assault, Cosby faces 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.
