{"id":194796,"date":"2016-03-01T14:11:58","date_gmt":"2016-03-01T14:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=194796"},"modified":"2016-03-01T14:11:58","modified_gmt":"2016-03-01T14:11:58","slug":"npp-elects-female-tutor-as-parl-candidate-for-abuakwa-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=194796","title":{"rendered":"NPP elects female tutor as parl. candidate for Abuakwa North"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region, have elected Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo, a tutor of the Akosombo International School, to lead the party in the upcoming by-election in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The by-election was necessitated by the death of Member of Parliament for the constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who was murdered at his Accra home in February, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;EV190oxQKooZq8X1FUfUzRe4NToOUfbc&#8221;]Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo won the primary with 207 votes after beating her two contenders, Kyei Brobbey and Isaac Osei Ampadu, who had 27 and 104 votes respectively.<\/p>\n<p>345 delegates\u00a0voted in Tuesday&#8217;s exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, March 29, 2016, to conduct the\u00a0by-election in the constituency.<\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission had announced that it will receive nominations for the election on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 1 and 2nd respectively at the District Office of the Commission at Tafo in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) already has a parliamentary candidate for the 2016 election in the person of Mr Anthony Osei Gyimah but it is unclear whether \u00a0he will contest in the March 29th by-election.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Godwin A.
