{"id":194165,"date":"2016-02-29T09:48:49","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T09:48:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=194165"},"modified":"2016-02-29T09:48:49","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T09:48:49","slug":"wa-assembly-makes-desks-for-pupils-after-bawumias-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=194165","title":{"rendered":"Wa Assembly provides school desks; &#8216;steals&#8217; Bawumia&#8217;s glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Wa Municipal Assembly in the Upper West Region, has now found it prudent to construct\u00a0desks for pupils of the\u00a0Kperisi Primary School in the area, who have been learning on bare floors for months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The assembly&#8217;s intervention, comes few days after the Vice Presidential Candidate\u00a0of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, ordered 500 desks to be made for them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;wem9tkVJbkRjxTSzhyny849ANV0usHsF&#8221;]The school&#8217;s plight, came to light after the State of the Nation Address\u00a0last Thursday, where the President had boasted of massive achievements in the educational sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Harrowing pictures of children lying on the bare floor but showing determination to learn, were awash on social media and some news portals, drawing the attention of\u00a0Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, who was on a visit in the region, to pass by\u00a0the school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-193785 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/DSC_0448-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0448\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He interacted with the kids, and immediately ordered for 500 desks to be made for them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-193787 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/DSC_0487-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0487\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But in what appears to be a face-saving exercise, the Wa Municipal Assembly, which is reportedly unhappy with the school&#8217;s Headmistress for allowing the plight of the school to be publicized, has hurriedly started the construction of some 200 desks for the school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Citi News&#8217; <\/strong>Latif Mahama who confirmed this, says he encountered a contractor from the Assembly working on some desks over the weekend for the\u00a0pupils.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_194168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-194168\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-194168\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/60de48f3-f562-4026-9ea0-adb5721e8465-1.jpg\" alt=\"Wa MCE, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha\" width=\"600\" height=\"446\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-194168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wa MCE, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Spokesperson for\u00a0the\u00a0Wa Municpal Chief Executive, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, claimed\u00a0that the Assembly had made plans for the construction of the desks long before Dr. Bawumia&#8217;s intervention.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThere was vacuum to be filled or a need that was already being addressed by the Assembly.
