National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Adaklu Constituency in the Volta Region, has blamed the Finance Ministry for the worsening water crisis in his constituency.<\/p>\n
The MP,\u00a0Kwame Governs Agbodza, complained\u00a0that the Finance Ministry has failed to put to use\u00a0an amount of seven million Euros approved by government for the completion of a water project for the people of Agortime Ziope.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”dJ18JlLZnK2FM7IExnhGIz64gEKuNORZ”]Speaking in an interview with Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0after President John Mahama presented the State of the Nation address to Parliament on Thursday, the MP said several efforts to have the project completed have not yielded results.<\/p>\n He said \u00a0the people of Adaklu and Agortime Ziope districts “are supposed to be benefit from five district water projects, of which the phase one and two have been done pending the phase three for distribution.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe president has on many occasions mentioned this project that it will be completed. I have every reason to believe that he meant well when he mentioned this project. If this project is not completed, I\u2019m sorry I have to say this, I will blame the Finance Ministry solely for this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Blame Terkper not Mahama\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m aware that it is Finance Ministry that needs to complete negotiations for the seven million Euros to be used to complete an existing water project, of which we spent money to build the treatment plant.\u00a0I\u2019m saying that this is not the president\u2019s fault; the Finance Ministry must deal with it,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n Keta too has water problem<\/strong><\/p>\n On\u00a0his part, the MP for Keta, Richard Quashigah, also lamented about the water problem in his constituency.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cI was a bit saddened that I never heard anything about the Anyako water crisis. Seva and Konu have had a long standing water problem which we\u2019ve talked about. I\u2019ve raised this issue in the House.\u00a0We were promised a three prong approach in dealing with the problem; but we are still where we are. I\u2019m not happy and I\u2019m sure the people in my area won\u2019t be happy. We also expected the president to talk about the Sogakorpe-Lome project which we are \u00a0supposed to benefit from,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Nsawam, Winneba water crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n Several areas in the country have struggled with access to water in recent months. In the Eastern Region, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality has been the worst-hit following the drying up of the Densu River.<\/p>\n In the Nsawm area however, the Ghana Water Company has intervened to provide an interim solution whiles it takes measures to tackle the problem in the long-term.<\/p>\n Winneba in the Central Region is facing a similar crisis.<\/p>\n \u00a0–<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
