Frank Lampard will be England’s vice-captain at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, says manager Roy Hodgson.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old Chelsea midfielder has 103 caps and will be deputy to skipper Steven Gerrard, ahead of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.<\/p>\n
“Frank’s been the vice-captain all along in Steven’s absences, which I think has been twice,” said Hodgson. “He’s stepped up quite brilliantly.”<\/p>\n
Lampard has captained England six times during his career.<\/p>\n
“I’ve always thought that he was going to be a key member of this 23 because of his experience and what he brings to the team apart from pure footballing ability,” Hodgson told the Football Association website.<\/p>\n
“He brings a lot of other things to us in terms of his leadership qualities and characteristics.”<\/p>\n
England will play three friendlies against Peru, Ecuador and Honduras before beginning their World Cup campaign on 14 June against Italy.<\/p>\n
