The Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority has served notice to all transit operators, hauliers, freight forwarders and the shipping community to be aware of a cargo transport directive that has been enforced by neighbouring Cote D\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
In a letter signed by the Head of Shipper Services at the authority, it indicated that \u201cthe government of the republic of La Cote D’Ivoire has begun enforcing an existing directive requiring all cargoes originating from non-ECOWAS countries and destined to La Cote D’Ivoire to be cleared only at the seaports of La Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
The statement further said \u201cin view of the enforcement of this directive by the Ivoirian authorities, trucks carrying cargoes destined for La Cote D’Ivoire but originating from non-ECOWAS countries and not in transit through La Cote D’Ivoire would not be allowed clearance at the land borders for entry into La Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
To avoid a situation where trucks loaded with such cargoes are held up at the land borders, shippers, transit operators, hauliers, freight forwarders etc. are advised to take note of the directive in their business transactions with La Cote D’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
In giving its assurance to persons who may be affected by the directive, the Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority said it is working with the Transport Ministry and their Ivorian counterparts to find a lasting solution to the problems that may emanate from the enforcement of this directive.<\/p>\n
