{"id":188387,"date":"2016-02-10T07:59:08","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T07:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=188387"},"modified":"2016-02-10T07:59:08","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T07:59:08","slug":"peace-council-to-mediate-bunkprugu-chieftaincy-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=188387","title":{"rendered":"Peace council to mediate Bunkprugu chieftaincy dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two factions in\u00a0the decade-long chieftaincy conflict\u00a0in Bunkprugu in the Northern Region, have agreed to allow the National Peace Council to mediate a peace plan to resolve the impasse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Women and children have over the years suffered the consequences of the brawls\u00a0between\u00a0the Jamong and Jafog Bimoba clans, who have fiercely been fighting over the Bimoba traditional area paramountcy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/02\/03\/35-houses-torched-in-bunkprugu-disturbances-police\/\">Recent clashes<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the area have resulted in the death of four persons and the burning of several houses.\u00a0 Hundreds of residents of the township have also fled the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-188425\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/89f50508-7427-423a-9598-da919960cbaa.jpg\" alt=\"89f50508-7427-423a-9598-da919960cbaa\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Presidential Candidate of the People`s National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama, who revealed the decision of the Peace Council to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> after he personally made an appeal to them on Tuesday, expressed the hope that the council`s mediation will bring the conflict to an end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He stated, \u201cWe met both factions to come up with a peace plan that will address the issue once and for all. After the meeting, they agreed to allow the national Peace Council to mediate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-188390\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/0915204b-54c2-4c7f-8059-b17d26b685a9.jpg\" alt=\"0915204b-54c2-4c7f-8059-b17d26b685a9\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added that, \u201c We said we know the matter is before the court and the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, but you cannot get peace when you area killing one another, so we asked if it is acceptable to them for the national Peace Council to come and mediate peace for you and they agreed.
