Ghanaian students on government scholarship in Russia, have threatened to embark on a demonstration on Monday February 1, 2016, to demand the payment of their allowance which has stalled for\u00a0five months.<\/p>\n
The Students, who are pursuing various Masters and PhD programmes, say their living conditions are getting worse by day.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the leader of the \u00a0aggrieved students, Amin Yakubu, said the decision to demonstrate is their last resort after several pleas to the government have fallen on deaf ears.<\/p>\n According him, their situation is really \u201cdire and delicate\u201d forcing\u00a0some of the students to resort to\u00a0illegal means to survive.<\/p>\n Mr. Yakubu said they\u00a0have written to\u00a0government representatives in both Ghana and Russia, but are yet to get a response from them.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have written and communicated these issues to the scholarship secretariat in Ghana and the representatives of the Ghana government, that is the Ghana Embassy in Moscow, and they both haven\u2019t given us any answer as to when they will pay or even any reasonable explanation for the delay.\u201d<\/p>\n With no response or intervention from\u00a0government, the students have decided to vent their frustration by demonstrating at the Ghana Embassy in Moscow on February 1.<\/p>\n \u201cWe feel like we have exhausted all options available to us and that is why we are going on a massive demonstration on 1st<\/sup> February 2016 at the Ghana embassy in Moscow.\u00a0Students from all over Russia will be participating because there is really no sense in staying in school when you have nothing to eat or can’t even find a place to sleep,\u201d Mr Yakubu added.<\/p>\n The delays in the payment of allowances to Ghanaian students on scholarship abroad has become\u00a0a common occurrence.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmoline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Ghanaian students on government scholarship in Russia, have threatened to embark on a demonstration on Monday February 1, 2016, to demand the payment of their allowance which has stalled for\u00a0five months.
