{"id":185124,"date":"2016-01-28T07:38:20","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T07:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=185124"},"modified":"2016-01-28T07:38:20","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T07:38:20","slug":"facebook-doubles-fourth-quarter-profits-to-1-56bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=185124","title":{"rendered":"Facebook doubles fourth quarter profits to $1.56bn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Social media giant Facebook said that profits more than doubled in the fourth quarter of 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Net profit for the three months to December rose to $1.56bn (\u00a31.09bn), up from $701m.<\/p>\n<p>The company also said that 80% of its advertising revenue in that period came from mobile advertising, up from 69% a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Shares jumped 8.7% in after-hours trading in New York on the better than expected results.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue for the full year jumped 44% to $17.9bn, with net profit rising about $800m to $3.7bn.<\/p>\n<p>The results mean that Facebook has now beaten analysts&#8217; expectations for ten consecutive quarters.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Sanderson, an analyst at MKM Partners, described the growth as phenomenal.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/6A0A\/production\/_87964172_gettyimages-187265715.jpg\" alt=\"Facebook\" width=\"485\" height=\"273\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Ken Sena, an analyst at Evercore ISI, said the advertising growth was much better than expected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It signifies the importance of what they&#8217;re providing to advertisers,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mobile growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re providing a very efficient method of distribution for them, they&#8217;re making big investments and evidenced by their quarterly performance it seems to be working.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The number of monthly active users rose 14% to 1.59 billion in the fourth quarter compared with the same period in 2014, with 1.44 billion accessing Facebook on mobile devices &#8211; a 21% increase.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said that 2015 was a &#8220;great year for Facebook.
