{"id":185079,"date":"2016-01-28T06:30:49","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T06:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=185079"},"modified":"2016-01-28T06:30:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T06:30:49","slug":"2-die-in-renewed-bunkpurugu-clashes-hundreds-flee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=185079","title":{"rendered":"2 die in renewed Bunkpurugu clashes; hundreds flee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4120\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4121\">The Northern Regional Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has confirmed the death of two persons in troubled Bunkprugu township after renewed clashes that lasted for hours between Wednesday night and Thursday dawn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4109\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4119\">The fight between the Jamong and Jafog (two Bimoba) clans in the area also resulted in the torching of several houses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4128\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4129\">According to a resident (name withheld) whose father&#8217;s house was torched, hundreds of residents of Bunkprugu township have fled the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4130\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4171\">He narrated that sporadic gun shooting lasted for several hours in an area where there is curfew.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\">He accused security operatives in Bunkprugu of their apathy towards picking early warning signals to curtail such renewed clashes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\">He admonished government to re-strategize and find a permanent solution to the age long impasse between the two feuding Bimoba clans.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4170\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4169\">The two combatants have constantly been fighting over chieftaincy and other related matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4135\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4136\">It will be recalled that two persons died while 24 houses were burnt down during similar clashes on Sunday April 12, 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4133\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4134\">The Interior Ministry upon the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council (RECSEC) on December 29, 2015 renewed the curfew from 8pm to 6 am.<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4131\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4131\">President John Dramani Mahama at the Damba festival in Mamprugu land called for permanent ceasefire in Bunkprugu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4147\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4168\">According to him, the incessant deadly feud between the two Jamong and Jafog clans is affecting his government\u2019s transformational agenda in the Northern Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4141\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4142\">President Mahama emphasized the need for peaceful co-existence in some identified conflict zones in the Northern Region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4140\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/Citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1453961067583_4139\" class=\"yiv2099194734MsoNormal\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Regional Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has confirmed the death of two persons in troubled Bunkprugu township after renewed clashes that lasted for hours between Wednesday night and Thursday dawn.
