<\/p>\nThe Bongo District Police Command has bemoaned the recent spate of armed robbery incidents in the area.<\/p>\n
Snatching of motorbikes from residents in the district is on the rise.<\/p>\n
According to the police, the situation has put the lives of residents in danger since the robbers would do anything to snatch the motorbikes from their owners.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a dialogue in Bongo, Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Bongo District, (ASP) Paul Archibald Ankan however assured that his outfit has deployed police personnel with logistics to deal with such miscreants.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are seriously at war with these armed robbers because we cannot sit within our own homes and cannot go out in the night to perform our duties because of few massacres, am taking it upon myself that\u00a0we will fight them till they leave the district and go where they want,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
ASP Ankan explained that because the Bolgatanga municipal police command has made it difficult for such activities to take place, the armed robbers have moved into the Bongo district to carry out their activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cChasing armed robbers with our vehicles in the district is very difficult because the armed robbers use motorbikes and anytime they see the police vehicles patrolling, they escape with their bikes through unapproved routes and maneuver their way out of the narrow roads which our vehicles cannot ply on.”<\/p>\n
\u201cThe crimes committed in Bongo District is more violent than just mere thievery because most of the robbers are always well armed but we have taken the decision\u00a0to face these robbers squarely. During one of our patrols, one of the notorious motor snatchers was gunned down by the patrol team which had gone a long way to bring sanity to the district,” ASP Ankan stated.<\/p>\n
ASP Ankan made a passionate appeal to the district assembly and philanthropists to support them with motorbikes to improve\u00a0their patrols in order to clamp down on armed robbers in the area.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0District Chief Executive for Bongo, Alexis Ayamdoog assured the police of the assembly’s support to fight crime to its barest minimum and impressed on residents to form community security vigilante groups to report suspected criminals to the police for timely intervention.<\/p>\n
