The Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyem North Constituency in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday led a demonstration against the Agogo traditional authorities for what he calls, their failure to sack Fulani herdsmen in the area.<\/p>\n

The residents, who have been complaining about the activities of the Fulanis say despite a court order for their eviction, the traditional authority is still dragging its feet.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”BDjLvxZa2L6ux6dt0IA2RTaNh79Tgwil”]They issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the traditional council after the demonstration to drive away the herdsmen or face their wrath.<\/p>\n

The Member of Parliament for the area, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, told Citi News<\/strong> that they will mar an event to mark the enstoolment of a new chief for the area if the herdsmen are not sacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese Fulani issue has been with us for sometime and our investigations and proceedings suggest that the judicial council are the people who give them the land. We\u00a0took them to court and on 20th<\/sup> January 2012, we had a ruling from the High Court in Kumasi that REGSEC should go and evacuate Fulanis and their cattle from our land and up till now it has not been done.”<\/p>\n

“The court order has not been adhered to and we can’t sit down for this to go on\u2026 They are murdering our people, butchering them, raping our women and we are calling on them to let them go else the 40th<\/sup> anniversary for the enstoolment of the chief of Agogo we won\u2019t allow it to come off; and if any chief calls for any durbar, we are not going to honour it.”<\/p>\n

There has been an impasse between Fulani Herdsman and residents in farming communities in the Agogo area and other parts of the country for sometime now.<\/p>\n

The protracted conflict has in some cases resulted in violent clashes and sometimes death.<\/p>\n

The youth in the area believe these conflicts will be stalled if the herdsmen are evicted from the communities.<\/p>\n

Three Fulani men were killed last year [2015] following violent clashes<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>between two communities in the Afram plains.<\/p>\n
