{"id":18095,"date":"2014-05-13T05:34:07","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T05:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=18095"},"modified":"2014-05-13T09:54:45","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T09:54:45","slug":"woyome-lied-in-court-kwadwo-mpiani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=18095","title":{"rendered":"Woyome lied in court \u2013 Kwadwo Mpiani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has denied given orders for the payment of $ 500,000 into a Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) account for the financing of the CAN 2008 tournament in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>This follows a revelation made by embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome in court on Monday that ahead of the CAN 2008 tournament, the then Chief of Staff, Mr. Mpiani ordered the payment of $500,000 into a GNPC account at Prudential bank to finance initial projects for the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the claim on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong> on Monday, Mr. Mpiani denied saying, \u201che is lying\u2026I am not aware of any such thing\u2026definitely I have not done that and I am not aware of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He indicated his readiness to appear in court to answer questions relating to the matter.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Mr. Woyome is in court trying to prove his case but his account of the payment of the said amount is untrue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am saying he is lying and I don\u2019t know whether he has perjured himself in court or not but what he said in court, I am saying it\u2019s a lie as far as I am concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Former Attorney General (AG), Martin Amidu in 2012 dragged Mr. Woyome to court over GHC 51 million paid to him as judgement debt by the state.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amidu subsequently went to court to help the state to retrieve the GHC 51 million, which he contended was wrongfully paid to Woyome.<\/p>\n<p>The State prosecutors presented nine witnesses to testify against Mr. Woyome.<\/p>\n<p>The case is being heard at the Accra High Court presided over by His Lordship Justice John Ajet-Nassam.<\/p>\n<p>Since Mr. Woyome opened his defense in court, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has been in court to support the prosecution team.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<br \/>\n<a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/osamidan\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @osamidan<\/a><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has denied given orders for the payment of $ 500,000 into a Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) account for the financing of the CAN 2008 tournament in Ghana.
