A new political party has officially joined the fray ahead of the November 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n
The African Reform Movement (ARM) has been given a provisional license by the Electoral Commission to operate in Ghana.<\/p>\n
This brings to 25, the number of political parties licensed by the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
The party was founded and is led by medical doctor Nii Amu Darko who regularly\u00a0advocates for a complete change of Ghana\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n
According to him, it is primary reason for Ghana\u2019s failings is not any individual or political party but the countries \u201cflawed\u201d constitution.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> Dr. Nii Amu Darko said, \u201cThe fundamental problem of Ghana is not John Mahama, it\u2019s not Nana Akufu Addo… it is the constitution. It is a very flawed document.\u201d<\/p>\n The leader of the AMR party has further committed to highlight the reasons he believes the constitution of the land is the reasons for the countries woes.<\/p>\n He said, \u201cWe are going to point out to Ghanaians why the misrule is so pervasive, why it is actually endemic. It is because the constitution allows all these things to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n As an example of the perceived flaws in the constitution, Dr. Nii Amu Darko noted it gives the president too much power.<\/p>\n He further stated his political party, if given the mandate to govern, will come out with a more rigid constitution to limit the president.<\/p>\n \u201cOur constitution is a discretional constitution which gives so much power to the president… We are going to come with a prescriptive constitution which actually limits.\u201d<\/p>\n The AMR are also advocates of “Afremocracy”, a federal system of governance with an\u00a0elected national government and elected state governments.<\/p>\n They view federalism as the most suitable system of governance\u00a0for effective decentralization in a multi-ethnic nation.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citimonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A new political party has officially joined the fray ahead of the November 2016 general elections.
