{"id":180171,"date":"2016-01-07T19:00:28","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T19:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=180171"},"modified":"2016-01-07T19:00:28","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T19:00:28","slug":"petrol-price-up-by-33diesel-40-acep-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=180171","title":{"rendered":"Petrol price up by 33%,diesel 40 % &#8211; ACEP claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) says the increase in the\u00a0prices of\u00a0petroleum products higher than the 27% \u00a0being reported.<\/p>\n<p>Ghanaians have been told that the recent increment ranges between\u00a018 to 27 percent. \u00a0But according to ACEP, its own calculations, shows that Ghanaians will be paying between 33% and 40%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe effect of the levies on ex-pump prices are much greater and punitive than what Ghanaians have been made to believe &#8220;Executive Director of ACEP, Muhammed Amin Adam.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;7RfoIO6x82cayX3EWGrZ61l8yP0hzqiK&#8221;]Mr.\u00a0Muhammed Amin Adam said, \u201cwe estimate that the levies have led to increase in the ex-pump price of petrol per litre by 33%, 40% on diesel per litre and 22% on LPG per kilogram.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further stated that with the introduction of the current levies, the tax component on the ex-pump prices stands at \u00a041 percent for petrol and 42 percent for diesel.<\/p>\n<p>According to him,\u00a0the share of taxes on petroleum prices in Ghana is one the highest in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Parliament has been engaged in a<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> <a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/01\/08\/parliament-rather-misled-ghanaians-on-energy-levy-asaga\/\" target=\"_blank\">back and forth<\/a><\/strong><\/span> with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) over\u00a0the approval of the energy sector levy that led to the increases in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>According to Parliament, it was made to understand that the increase would be 5% instead of the rather high percentage at the pumps.<\/p>\n<p>The increase, which comes barely a month after similar hikes in utility prices, \u00a0has angered many Ghanaians, considering crude oil prices on the world market is at its lowest level in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Organised Labour has demanded a 50 percent increment in salaries to cushion workers.
