{"id":17992,"date":"2014-05-12T13:54:10","date_gmt":"2014-05-12T13:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=17992"},"modified":"2014-05-12T13:54:10","modified_gmt":"2014-05-12T13:54:10","slug":"mozilla-to-test-sponsored-tabs-on-firefox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=17992","title":{"rendered":"Mozilla to test sponsored tabs on Firefox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\">Mozilla has said it will test a plan that puts ads and sponsored content on the boxes that appear when Firefox users launch a new tab on the browser.<\/p>\n<p>Firefox displays nine boxes or &#8220;tiles&#8221; showing screenshots of the websites visited most often by the user.<\/p>\n<p>Many users were concerned about Mozilla&#8217;s plan announced earlier this year to add advertising to the boxes.<\/p>\n<p>But the firm has assured users it is not going to turn Firefox &#8220;into a mess of logos sold to the highest bidder&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Johnathan Nightingale, vice president of Firefox,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.mozilla.org\/futurereleases\/2014\/05\/09\/new-tab-experiments\/\">said in a blog post<\/a>\u00a0that many users had found the language of the initial announcement &#8220;hard to decipher&#8221; and were worried they would have no control over their browser.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s not going to happen. That&#8217;s not who we are at Mozilla,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said the tests were designed to understand what the users find helpful and what parts they ignore or disable on the browser.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These tests are not about revenue and none will be collected.
