{"id":178590,"date":"2016-01-02T13:54:04","date_gmt":"2016-01-02T13:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=178590"},"modified":"2016-01-02T13:54:04","modified_gmt":"2016-01-02T13:54:04","slug":"well-increase-transport-fares-if-gprtu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=178590","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;ll increase transport fares if&#8230; &#8211; GPRTU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has revealed\u00a0plans to increase transport fares should the government \u00a0announce an increase in fuel prices on Monday January 4.<\/p>\n<p>The prices of petroleum products are expected to see a rise from\u00a0between 18 to 27 per cent \u00a0from Monday, following\u00a0the passage of the Energy Sector Levy (ESL) by Parliament in December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;0SWGTo1YEklAcL8yLsItG6E04Jsv0pD7&#8243;]Despite a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/12\/18\/fuel-prices-reduce-marginally\/\" target=\"_blank\">marginal decrease in fuel prices<\/a><\/strong><\/span> last month, the GPRTU did not adjust transport fares.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Union says that any increase in fuel prices as a result of the ESL, would result in an upward adjustment in the transport fares.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0National Chairman of the GPRTU, Kwame Kuma, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0there hasn&#8217;t been any official communication from the \u00a0sector ministry about the imminent fuel price hikes, although they expect to be told of the increase on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They haven\u2019t called us to tell us anything. We are still in the holiday period and we\u2019ll resume on Monday. I\u2019m sure when we do, they\u2019ll call us so that we sit down with them. No matter how it is, the increment will come; but all of us in the transport sector will sit down. Even though there\u2019s no transport minister, the administrators are available for us to meet and decide what to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kwame Kuma argued that although fuel prices were not the only factors for transport fare adjustments, there have been recent increases in the prices of vehicle spare parts, which is a factor considered for such\u00a0adjustments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the increments come, no matter how it is, we are also going to increase our fares. It\u2019s not the only thing used to decide the transport fares.
