Member of Parliament for the Akyem Abuakwa South Constituency, Atta Kyea has disclosed that the government of Ghana can abrogate its contract with Ameri power if it is established that the company dealt fraudulently with the nation.<\/p>\n
According to the MP, \u201cthe principle of law is that you can\u2019t profit from your own wrong. If through false representation you have secured a contract, and the one that you wanted to rip has now come to terms with the fraud then no court of law, will say that by reason of the fact that the contract has been abrogated on grounds of fraud, you should be rewarded for fraud. I don\u2019t see how anybody can make a successful case of causing financial loss.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”2Bu1Fleg6WkTgH1C6fnAlDoug2ka7zlw”]The MPs comment follows claims by a Norwegian Newspaper that the Ameri company may have short changed Ghana in the supply of ten power turbines for the nation.<\/p>\n
The Newspaper suggested a possible inflation of the cost of the Ameri power plants by more than 200 million dollars, adding that\u00a0Ghana will not pay $510 million for the turbines when the market value of the turbines is $220 million.<\/p>\n
Government has received severe backlash over the deal though it has denied the report.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament is to file a motion for recession to overturn the parliamentary approval of the controversial Ameri Power deal.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Atta Kyea\u00a0further\u00a0called for cool heads in unveiling the truth in the scandal.<\/p>\n \u201cI am saying that this case runs further than we think and we need to have a cool head to go into the very bottom of this matter. If they are exonerated, why not, but if there are serious matters and implications for us, Ghana should not be a haven for fraudulent contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n On the recession being sought by the minority, Atta Kyea said he will only support it \u201cif the evidence is overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
