Pressure is mounting on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Gilbert Buckle, to resign; as members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Korle-Bu, have joined calls for his resignation.<\/p>\n

This follows similar calls<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>by the hospital\u2019s Senior Staff Association, which has accused Dr. Gilbert Buckle of mismanaging the facility.<\/p>\n

The nurses in a petition to the Ministry of Health and the presidency said the hospital has run out of logistics to function effectively.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”uX0F5LHHxDLzOO0B1bphi4fXTSfmyTaS”]The petition was also copied to the Director of Nursing Services, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the National President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.<\/p>\n

The nurses in their petition said \u201cThe system is such that, there is nothing to work with and we (nurses) sometimes have to risk our lives in order to save the lives of our patients. Simple logistics are not available and when you ask they say there is no money.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nurses hanged this red cloth on a statute at the hospital’s premises.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

According to them, the poor conditions of service at the facility have forced some nurses to resign causing excessive pressure on the few existing staff.<\/p>\n

They also accused the management of intimidating nurses who express their grievances about the challenges the facility is facing.<\/p>\n

\u201cNurses are bitter and that is preventing us from giving the best of care to our clients. The fact that nurses pay for their own medical bills and buy their own drugs when they are sick is highly unfair. Meanwhile, we are aware there is a condition of service that allows some directors at management to receive free medical care and even for their families. How can a nurse render a service and is denied the same service she renders when she is in need?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have noticed that in this hospital, when one speaks the truth, he or she is tagged for sanction. This is really putting fear in some of our members\u201d they noted.<\/p>\n

The nurses are thus demanding that a proper management system be put in place to ensure a consistent flow of logistics to improve the care given to patients.<\/p>\n

While demanding a proper medical plan that will take care of their health needs, they also backed calls for investigations into the allegations of mismanagement leveled against the CEO by the Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere should be a change in the leadership of management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to avert the Hospital from total collapse\u201d they demanded.
