{"id":173049,"date":"2015-12-09T13:40:54","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T13:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=173049"},"modified":"2015-12-09T13:40:54","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T13:40:54","slug":"nkrumah-was-one-of-ghanas-worst-leaders-prof-adei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=173049","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Nkrumah was one of Ghana&#8217;s worst leaders&#8217; &#8211; Prof. Adei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, has argued that\u00a0despite Dr. Kwame Nkrumah&#8217;s good works in his first ten years, he eventually turned\u00a0into one of the worst Ghanaian leaders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on\u00a0<strong>Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> &#8220;Time With The Legends&#8221; segment on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>, Professor Adei acknowledged that Dr. Nkrumah\u2019s first 10 years in power were brilliant, from a development standpoint, but further said the post-republic Nkrumah was \u201cour undoing,\u201d adding that Nkrumah\u00a0was sidetracked by socialist philosophies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Professor Adei said Nkrumah at a point could be\u00a0likened to Zimbabwe&#8217;s\u00a0Robert Mugabe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDespite the first decade of Nkrumah\u2019s wonderful period, he was one of the worst leaders \u2013 murderous, despotic and everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He stated that Dr. Nkrumah\u2019s dictatorial turn was counterproductive for the country, undoing the good work of his first 10 years while ushering in an economic crisis in Ghana in\u00a01963.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you look at Ghana between 1963 and 1964, every macro economic variable came to a halt; Inflation, deficit, external balances \u2013 everything! the only thing that was strong in those years was operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof. Adei who is believed to be an authority on leadership, also\u00a0described Africa&#8217;s\u00a0leadership as worse than the dictatorships that characterized the rise of the likes of the Lee Kuan Yews-led Singapore, which muzzled all opposition and dissent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey are worse than iron fists. They may not be harsh brutal killing people but they are stealing money doing everything else. In fact, our people are strong in the wrong direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He noted that the Asian leaders in the mold of Lee Kwan Yew were \u201ceffective leaders but not angels\u201d adding\u00a0they were equipped with leadership qualities and passionate about their countries never seeking personal gain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey were very passionate about the development of their countries.
