Ghanaian international music star and humanitarian activist, Rocky Dawuni, who straddles the boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. to create an appealing sound that unites generations and cultures, has been nominated for an award at the highly-prestigious music awards, the Grammys.<\/p>\n

Rocky made it in the \u2018Reggae Album of the Year\u2019 category with the acclaimed album, \u2018Branches of The Same Tree\u2019 under Cumbancha Label. He will be contesting with other internationally-recognized artistes like Barrington Levy, Luciano, Jah Cure and Morgan Heritage for the honour.<\/p>\n

With an easy-going charisma and reputation as a dedicated champion of social causes, Dawuni’s infectious grooves and dance-inducing anthems have consistently excited fans across the globe.<\/p>\n

A galvanizing performer, Dawuni has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Bono, Jason Mraz, Janelle Monae and John Legend, among many others.<\/p>\n

Named one of Africa\u2019s Top 10 global stars by CNN, he has showcased his talent at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

The Grammys return to L.A.\u2019s Staples Center on February 15, 2016, and will be broadcast in high on the American cable network, CBS. No host has been announced.<\/p>\n

Benin\u2019s Angelique Kidjo has also been given the chance to land her second Grammy as she is nominated in the world music category.<\/p>\n

Kendrick Lamar leads with 11 nominations while Taylor Swift and The Weekend follow behind with 7 nominations each.<\/p>\n

Taylor Swift is the only artist to have nominations in all three major categories \u2013 Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.<\/p>\n

Although his music\u00a0appear not to have embraced much in his homeland, Dawuni has made great strides\u00a0in most parts of Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n

Rocky Dawuni met with Ghana\u2019s President John Dramani Mahama when he launched his new album \u2018Branches of the same tree\u2019 at a reception in the Bel Air, CA on Saturday October 3 2015.<\/p>\n
