{"id":172152,"date":"2015-12-05T17:05:27","date_gmt":"2015-12-05T17:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=172152"},"modified":"2015-12-05T17:05:27","modified_gmt":"2015-12-05T17:05:27","slug":"uganda-beat-rwanda-1-0-to-win-the-2015-cecafa-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=172152","title":{"rendered":"Uganda beat Rwanda 1-0 to win the 2015 Cecafa Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda were crowned 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup champions on Saturday beating Rwanda 1-0 in the final in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n<p>The Cranes won the competition for a record-extending 14th time thanks to a 15th minute strike from Ceaser Okhuti.<br \/>\nIt caps a great year for Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>The Cranes are the only team in the Council for East and Central African Football Association region to reach the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>It was a particularly satisfying victory for Uganda&#8217;s coach, Milutin &#8216;Micho&#8217; Sredojovic.<\/p>\n<p>Micho previously coached Rwanda, taking the Amavubi to the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup final in 2011, only to lose to Uganda on penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday&#8217;s final was another tight affair, with both sides squandering chances.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_172154\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-172154\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Ugandan-Coach.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-172154 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Ugandan-Coach.jpg\" alt=\"Uganda coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojovic.\" width=\"320\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Ugandan-Coach.jpg 320w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Ugandan-Coach-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-172154\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Uganda coach Milutin &#8216;Micho&#8217; Sredojovic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Uganda Cranes skipper Farouk Miya, who also missed from close range, was thrilled his side held on for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are happy to win the trophy again since 2012,&#8221; said Miya.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will be a good motivation for us ahead of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda, alongside Ethiopia and Rwanda &#8211; have all qualified for the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be staged in Rwanda starting in January.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Saturday hosts Ethiopia took third place in the Cecafa Cup in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n<p>They beat Sudan 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after the play-off match had ended 1-1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am happy that the team has played their hearts out and managed to finish third out of all 12 teams,&#8221; said Ethiopia coach Yohannes Sahle.<\/p>\n<p>Ethiopia had gone 1-0 up early on in normal time through Elias Mamo.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan, who finished second in 2013, equalized with a goal from Walaaeldin Musa Yagoub.<\/p>\n<p>It remained 1-1 with the match being decided on penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan&#8217;s Atahir El Tahir had his penalty saved to hand third place to Ethiopia.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda were crowned 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup champions on Saturday beating Rwanda 1-0 in the final in Addis Ababa.
