Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has tasked teachers to learn extensively and be abreast with information to enable them impact the future generations with relevant\u00a0knowledge.<\/p>\n
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made this call at the launch of the Transforming Teacher education and Learning (T-TEL) in Accra.<\/p>\n
According to him, confident teachers inspire their students and impact good knowledge and as such teachers need to be well trained and be confident.<\/p>\n
He said if teachers lack the above, it makes learning difficult for students as the mediocrity in their actions is transmitted to the students and thus damages their confidence when learning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope that in the four years of this project, we can improve the quality of teaching and learning by implementing a new policy framework for pre-tertiary, teacher, professional development and management .We are moving into a le corporate world of science and it is very worrying that at the various universities, people are not patronizing science and mathematics. So I hope\u00a0that the T-TEL programme would help reverse the imbalance in the teaching of science and maths in the schools, in order for students\u00a0to become comfortable in the learning of these subjects that are critical to the country\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that \u201cScience is a\u00a0priority so there is the need to energize the teaching of science in schools at a time that government recognizes education as indispensable for social justice and participation. We would continue to prioritize quality, affordability and accessible education across the three levels of basic, secondary and tertiary education\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that, Transforming Teacher education and Learning (T-TEL) is suitable for the education sector, hence the need for the collaborating agencies including the 38 colleges of education responsible for teaching to step up their coordination efforts, adding that the policy will help improve the quality of learning in the 4 year period.<\/p>\n
T-TEL is a four-year \u00a319 million Government of Ghana programme designed to support the implementation of the new policy framework for Pre-Tertiary Teacher Professional Development and Management.<\/p>\n
Over 35,000 trained teachers are to\u00a0benefit from the policy which commenced in November 2014 and is dedicated to improving young minds.<\/p>\n
T-TEL is supported by the UK\u2019s Department of International Development.<\/p>\n
Present at the ceremony were Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister for Education and National programme manager for \u00a0T-TEL, Akwasi\u00a0\u00a0Addae \u2013 Boahen.<\/p>\n
