The Ministry of Education has hinted that the publishers of the supposed \u2018error-ridden\u2019 textbook, Sedco Publishing Limited, may be asked to bear the full cost of printing new textbooks for schools should they be found culpable.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister of Education, Alex Kyeremeh, told Citi News that, \u201cif it is found out that somebody\u2019s inaction led to this mistake, that person must be brought to book. If it is the fault of the publishers and printers [Sedco Publishing Limited] then they have to bear the cost of printing new books to replace the ones we have now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Confirming the receipt of a petition for the withdrawal of the books the petitioner, a teacher described as a \u201cdiseased\u201d integrated science textbook, Alex Kyeremeh indicated that a team has been commissioned by the Minister of Education to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister stressed that the current team of ministers were not in the service at the time of the approval of the textbooks to be used hence the need for clarification.<\/p>\n

A Junior High School teacher, Phanuel Yaw Ayawli, has petitioned<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the Ministry of Education to withdraw the Integrated Science Textbooks for Junior High Schools from schools for what he calls unpardonable errors.<\/p>\n

Portions of the petition to the Ministry said \u201cthis petition, without ceremony, seeks to suggest to your august office, your high-valued personality to withdraw these books not only from our public schools but also from public view in order to salvage the already struggling education in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Moses Anim, has attributed the high rate of failure among students to the reported errors found in textbooks being used by Junior High Schools across the country.<\/p>\n

Publishers of the New Integrated Science Textbook for Junior High Schools, Sedco Publishing Limited are yet to respond to the issue.
