The Executive Director for the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Rashid Dramani, has described as unfortunate, attempts by the Minority in Parliament to delay government business in the house.<\/p>\n
Parliament could not start the debate of the 2016 budget because it could not form a\u00a0quorum in the house on Wednesday, after minority members reportedly deserted the house deliberately.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”bc65OP204xgjs91kYEZkOhO20vIfXz1E”]The Minority’s actions, according to the Deputy Minority Speaker in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul, is as a result of comments they deemed offensive by the President.<\/p>\n
But Dr. Rashid Dramani said even though the minority has the legitimate right to stage boycotts, such actions derail the nation’s development efforts.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, he appealed to the leadership of Parliament to resolve the challenges so that the action does not cripple governance.<\/p>\n “I think it is unfortunate in terms of the effects it has on all of us because I think the country is waiting for Parliament to discuss the national appropriation bill so that the process of governance can continue.
