The eleven suspects arrested for allegedly taking part in the ransacking of the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday have been granted bail in the sum of 10,000 cedis by an Accra circuit court.<\/p>\n
They were granted bail with two sureties and made to sign a bond of good behaviour despite a request by the prosecution for them to be remanded in police custody for investigations.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”6UuZnXMGLtMkktiYC21IadOEIC2aqcND”]Lawyers for the eleven suspects opposed the request for remand, citing the absence of strong evidence against their clients.<\/p>\n
Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecution told\u00a0the court that the first accused person, Bismark Osei Addo who is said to be an ex-military officer and leader of the group informed the police that he mobilized eight retired soldiers,\u00a0dressed them in military uniforms and took them to the NPP headquarters to go and disarm the security men known as invisible forces.<\/p>\n
Bismark Osei Addo who is also the leader of the suspects further mobilized four hundred and eighty youth supporters from all ten regions \u00a0to come to the party’s headquarters to support them\u00a0present their grievances on recent \u00a0happenings \u00a0in the party to the elders of \u00a0the NPP.<\/p>\n
He said they planned to organize a press conference to announce the outcome of the meeting.<\/p>\n
How it happened<\/strong><\/p>\n On Monday, some six persons dressed in military uniform, were led by others in plain clothes\u00a0to carry out the act.<\/p>\n Items taken away from the office include the hard disk of the computer used by the party\u2019s Director of Elections Martin Adjei Korsah-Mensah.<\/p>\n Police officers have since the incident been on high alert at the premises of the party as investigations are underway.<\/p>\n The party\u2019s acting National Chairman Freddie Blay , has told journalists, the police suspects some influential persons may have masterminded the incident.<\/p>\n He says the party will carry out its own investigations whiles the police also carries out its probe.<\/p>\n Meanwhile the NPP Director of Communications, Anthony Karbo has admonished the Ghana Police Service to consider inviting the military command<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>for questioning over the incident.<\/p>\n He believes the move will help the Police unravel the truth in the matter.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Ansah\/Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
