{"id":169234,"date":"2015-11-24T06:56:15","date_gmt":"2015-11-24T06:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=169234"},"modified":"2015-11-24T06:56:15","modified_gmt":"2015-11-24T06:56:15","slug":"yahoo-stops-some-users-accessing-emails-in-ad-blockers-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=169234","title":{"rendered":"Yahoo stops some users accessing emails in ad-blockers row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Yahoo has confirmed that it is preventing some people from accessing their email if they are using ad-blocking software in their browser.<\/p>\n<p>Some users in the US reported that Yahoo Mail was displaying a message asking them to disable their ad-blocker before they could access their inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Yahoo said it was testing a &#8220;new product experience&#8221; in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Members of one ad-blocking forum said they had already managed to circumvent the restriction.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/13B2A\/production\/_86828608_yahoomail.jpg\" alt=\"Yahoo Mail\" width=\"615\" height=\"346\" \/><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ad-blocking has proved to be controversial and technology companies have responded in different ways.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Apple updated its mobile operating system iOS to allow third-party ad-blockers to be installed &#8211; although they do not remove Apple&#8217;s own ads which it serves up in apps.<\/p>\n<p>Google meanwhile has introduced a paid subscription version of YouTube, that lets viewers remove ads on the video streaming site for a monthly fee.<\/p>\n<p>Ad-blocking advocates say disabling advertisements can improve smartphone battery life and reduce mobile data usage.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hotspot hotspot--empty\">\u00a0It can also prevent people being tracked by advertisers online and protect devices from malware that could be served up if an advertising network is compromised.<\/div>\n<p>In 2014, Yahoo admitted adverts on its homepage had been infected with malware for four days.<\/p>\n<p>But the company currently relies on advertising to earn money from its Yahoo Mail service which is available to use for free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yahoo has confirmed that it is preventing some people from accessing their email if they are using ad-blocking software in their browser.
