The Ghana Police Service has suspended the inspection of drivers’ licenses due to the delay in the distribution of licenses by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).<\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch of the police operation code named \u2018Operation Father Christmas\u2019 the Director of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, said the suspension is to give the DVLA enough time to distribute the cards before the inspection begins.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”b3KU9uOBbj6zxspa2ZRYhuCzIr8DiQj9″]He attributed the suspension of the inspection exercise to \u201cthe failure of the DVLA to produce drivers’ licenses saying \u201cit has become virtually impossible for all drivers to have up to date licenses because most of them are now driving with temporary driver\u2019s license.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says police officers have thus been directed not to inspect drivers’ licenses until after 31st December 2015 to give the DVLA enough time to distribute the cards before the inspection begins.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have therefore directed that we should not inspect drivers\u2019 license until after 31st December because the DVLA is now distributing the new drivers\u2019 license and it is not the fault of the drivers that they don\u2019t have their drivers\u2019 license.\u201d<\/p>\n
The DVLA, some weeks ago announced the distribution of over 30,000 drivers’ licenses after delaying the printing of new cards due to technical challenges.<\/p>\n
The DVLA Authority is currently engrossed in controversy following their contract with Foto X, the company contracted to print drivers’ licenses.<\/p>\n
The DVLA contract with Foto X is said to be fraught with inconsistencies and has been largely condemned as a looting venture, causing the state to lose huge sums of money.<\/p>\n
