As the National Democratic Congress gears up for its first ever expanded delegates parliamentary primaries, one of the three aspirants hoping to unseat the Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin, in the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency of the Upper West Region, has filed a law suit seeking to disqualify a contender,\u00a0Roger Galeh from the race.<\/p>\n
David Jawara Banye, 44, claims Roger Galeh was slapped with a 5-year non custodial sentence by a Damango District Court in August 2008, hence does not qualify to be in the contest.<\/p>\n
According to Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Latif Mahama, \u201cper Mr. Jawara\u2019s writ, Mr. Roger was sentenced to a five-year non-custodial sentence with\u00a050 penalty units for poaching at the Damango Mole National Park.\u201d<\/p>\n He said Mr. Jawara is thus praying the court to ban Mr. Roger from contesting in the race.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”S3Lm5r64A5Z7TZtmm0mzM15BflRLgrkR”]According to Jawala, the NDC’s constitution bars convicted persons from vying for any position in the party.<\/p>\n Mr. Roger was in 2012 disqualified in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries over the same issue following a petition filed by Jawara.<\/p>\n According to Latif, Mr. Jawara had explained that \u201che tried getting the case across to the NDC executives but he claimed they tried shelving the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSome people in the NDC were trying to drag their fit on the matter and so I\u00a0chose to go to the Wa High Court to have his issue addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Jawala is also seeking to place an injunction restraining the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman from conducting the election in the area.<\/p>\n The court is expected to rule on the matter on Friday.<\/p>\n The NDC has had its November 21\u00a0primaries hit with court suits in some constituencies particularly by persons who felt they were unduly disqualified from the race.<\/p>\n The party has in some cases, suspended members who went to the court.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
