John Gyetua passed on in October<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>this year.<\/p>\n[contextly_sidebar id=”FPQLkoeRzLTDTWFmNYf1JIzKE1LMSIX3″]Following his death, the Electoral Commission has given the political parties up to November 19th, to field their candidates ahead of the by-election slated for\u00a0December 15, 2015.<\/p>\n
This required political parties who have not yet elected their candidates including the NDC, to elect them before the Thursday deadline.<\/p>\n
The NPP has already elected Lawyer Paul Dekyi to represent the party in the constituency.<\/p>\n
He will meet one of the six persons contesting in today\u2019s [Tuesday] NDC\u2019s parliamentary primaries underway \u00a0in the constituency.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Citi News,<\/strong> the Western Regional Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Nelson, stated that \u201cthe\u00a0election is to ensure that the NDC meets the EC\u2019s deadline despite the party’s parliamentary primaries slated for 21st November 2015. It means that if we are unable to have a representative before the EC\u2019s deadline elapses, the party will not have a candidate for the by-election on December 15 this year.\u201d<\/p>\nHe added that \u201cthe NDC has six contestants who are contesting in the\u00a0election namely Eric Afful, Gordon Kofi Sarfo-Adu, John Eddie Armoo, George Dadzie Jnr and Gerald Danquah. The have all observed the rules governing the election and everything is ongoing smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the number of registered NDC members expected to cast their vote, Mr. Nelson added that \u201cwe have 7,757 registered party members expected to vote in some 58 selected polling stations across the constituency.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission Stephen Opoku Mensah, added that \u201call electoral materials were available at all the 38 selected polling stations three days ahead of\u00a0the Wassa Amenfi West constituency.<\/p>\n
