President John Dramani Mahama has advised the rank and file of the opposition New Patriotic Party to exhibit maturity following the party’s internal strife that has led to the suspension of its Chairman, Paul Afoko.<\/p>\n
The party has since last year been in the news for the wrong reasons. Cracks in the party deepened following the suspension of the Chairman Paul Afoko.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”8nDE5bqYZfjqZ1rvUDCQF2PYWAiESA6D”]Following Afoko\u2019s suspension, a member of the party was stabbed to death in Asawase in the Ashanti Region, months after the party\u2019s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama died from an acid attack.<\/p>\n
Speaking on these recent developments at a rally at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra, Monday, Mahama said: \u201cOur opponents do know what violence is like because they have violent antecedents in the post colonial period and the precolonial period and that is why they need to mature quickly and put all this violence behind them, we want a peaceful election and we want a peaceful NPP.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further charged members of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to pray for peace in the NPP.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no room in the 21st century politics for acid bath.\u00a0 That is why we must pray for peace for that party\u2026we don\u2019t want to see any more injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Mahama who was addressing a crowd of NDC members in the Greater Accra Region urged them to also pray for good health for their opponents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not campaigning on anybody\u2019s health. Every day when you pray, pray for yourself, pray for your country and your opponent so that God gives us all good health to be able to go into 2016. And I will advise our opponents to also do likewise.\u201d<\/p>\n
