As part of initiatives to facilitate and empower women through learning, labor and leadership, Vlisco Ghana last Saturday graduated the second batch of trainees from its Tailor Academy Ghana.<\/p>\n

The initiative, which started in 2014, is aimed at supporting talented Ghanaian tailors, dressmakers and fashion designers to create a platform that connects African fashion talent and creativity with the knowledge of Vlisco Group in the African and global fashion world.<\/p>\n

The graduates, who were selected from the three Northern regions of the country, started their training with the Joyce Ababio fashion school in August 2014. They each received a certificate in Fashion Design.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News at the Maya Cova pleasure beach, Managing Director for Vlisco Ghana, Kofi Boateng said Vlisco will be seeking employment for seven graduates in their tailoring workshop in Tema and POI partners.<\/p>\n

This he said will be achieved through integrating education, funding, coaching and employment into a fashion facilitation network.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor Vlisco Group, catalyzing the African fashion world and the empowerment of women are the drivers for the Vlisco Group Tailor Academies\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Mr. Boateng encouraged women to take advantage of such opportunities to equip themselves with some form of vocational skills to improve their livelihoods.<\/p>\n

The Vlisco group includes Woodin, Uniwax, GTP and Vlisco.<\/p>\n
