{"id":163068,"date":"2015-10-28T15:07:18","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T15:07:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=163068"},"modified":"2015-10-28T15:07:18","modified_gmt":"2015-10-28T15:07:18","slug":"youtube-dodges-subscription-payment-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=163068","title":{"rendered":"YouTube dodges subscription payment row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">YouTube will pay video creators for clips watched during a free trial of its new subscription service, the BBC understands.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the site launched a premium offering in the US, removing advertisements for a monthly fee.<\/p>\n<p>Prominent YouTube stars had expressed concerns that they would not be paid if their videos were watched during the month-long free trial on offer.<\/p>\n<p>But Google is expected to confirm that is not the case later.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube stars earn money from the ads displayed around the videos they upload but the site&#8217;s new subscription service allows viewers in the US to remove the ads for a monthly fee.<\/p>\n<p>In return, video creators get a slice of the subscription money instead, divided up by how many minutes people watch their content for.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/16626\/production\/_86368619_86368598.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube Red logo\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Many creators expressed anger after content network Fullscreen tweeted: &#8220;YouTube has confirmed to us that creators will not receive revenue when a #YouTubeRed user watches your videos during the free trial.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>YouTube&#8217;s updated terms and conditions, which it asked content creators to agree to, do not refer to a free trial period.<\/p>\n<p>But the BBC understands that YouTube does intend to pay creators if their videos are watched during the free trial.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Apple faced criticism from musicians over its decision not to pay record labels for music streamed during the free trial of its new music service.<\/p>\n<p>The company changed its mind after singer Taylor Swift wrote an open letter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please don&#8217;t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YouTube will pay video creators for clips watched during a free trial of its new subscription service, the BBC understands.
