The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, has expressed his disappointment in the Ghana Football Association’s inability to use funds received from FIFA to develop grassroots football.<\/p>\n
The GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi has always insisted on using the funds received from FIFA to\u00a0provide facilities for young and upcoming players in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite the FIFA-sponsored investment in the Ghanaman soccer of excellence, Jon Benjamin, speaking on Viasat 1’s Sports Xtra insisted the GFA can do more to help develop grassroots football.<\/p>\n “Speaking personally as this is not the view of the British government, I have some questions about Kwesi Nyantakyi’s use of the funds he receives from FIFA” he said.<\/p>\n “Six months ago the President of the GFA\u00a0said he was fully behind Sepp Blatter but a couple of weeks ago he praised FIFA for suspending Blatter and that’s contradictory.\u00a0But as I understand it, the thesis of him and the GFA is that Blatter should be supported because of what he’s done for African football which I understand and think is right that Africa was given more places at the World Cup”.<\/p>\n “What I have seen is GFA officials in very expensive (SUVs) land cruisers, what I haven’t seen is really good pitches at grassroots level for ordinary Ghanaians.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Thierry Nyann\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
