The revelation that 90% of basic school pupils in Ghana cannot read and understand is not a fuss but a reality.<\/p>\n

A survey conducted by Citi News<\/strong> in the Tamale Metropolis has uncovered that some Junior High School students cannot read.<\/span><\/p>\n

The only few particularly in JHS 1 who can somehow read lacked comprehension.<\/span><\/p>\n

The situation is widespread in the Northern Region where the falling standard of education has hit the highest point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overcrowding, poor infrastructure, inadequate teaching and learning materials and lack of parental care are some of the causative factors.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the Kukuo A.M.E Zion JHS, teachers are compelled to teach overcrowded students in some dilapidated wooden structures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each classroom accommodates 70 students and above making it difficult for the teachers to pay attention to each student needs.\"pupils<\/span><\/p>\n

It is extremely difficult for the students to concentrate from 10 am to 1pm because of the hot weather.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of them end up soaking their exercise books with uncontrollable sweat in an effort to copy notes on the blackboard.<\/p>\n
