The Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC) has welcomed the Supreme Court\u2019s dismissal<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>of a case brought against it by one U.S based lawyer, Professor Kwaku Asare.<\/p>\n

Professor Asare was seeking to nullify the constitution review process<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”FZB1fFtHcJ4BM1YTvlvMyvGhtBh44vMB”]According to him, Parliament is the only institution mandated to schedule a referendum for an amendment of the constitution.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Citi News<\/strong>, a member of the CRIC, Dr. Gheysika Agambilla said the decision of the Supreme Court was not unexpected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted that the court has ruled favourably on the work of the Constitution Review Commission and now of the Constitution Review Implementation Committee. So we are very pleased with the ruling of the Supreme Court and I personally expected that the ruling will be this way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Agambilla said they \u201chad finished basically all the work, we had the bills ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEssentially there were two sets of bills; one set dealt with the changes to the Constitution that required a referendum, in order words, the entrenched provisions of the Constitution and another set where we have the non-entrenched provisions of the Constitution,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
