{"id":159326,"date":"2015-10-13T14:38:47","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T14:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=159326"},"modified":"2015-10-13T14:38:47","modified_gmt":"2015-10-13T14:38:47","slug":"stop-being-aggressive-on-journalists-gja-warns-stan-dogbe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=159326","title":{"rendered":"Stop being aggressive on journalists &#8211; GJA warns Stan Dogbe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Western Regional chapter of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has described as unfortunate attempts by Presidential Staffer Stan Dogbe, to discredit the journalists who were involved in an accident after covering the President\u2019s activity in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/10\/12\/wregion-press-corps-in-accident-citi-fm-reporter-unconscious\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>accident<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>occurred in the Ahanta West District at about 7:00pm on Monday, upon the team\u2019s return from covering the President\u2019s commissioning of a new community day Senior High School.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the vehicles in the convoy is said to have crashed into the press van which also had some NDC serial callers in it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;hKjPiWNSyISynjdEyx8NysDQRHGLYXez&#8221;]Although the journalists sustained minor injuries, one of them, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, who is Citi FM\u2019s Western Regional Correspondent, has been admitted at the Kwesimintsim Polyclinic in Takoradi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commenting on the accident in a Facebook post however, presidential staffer, Stan Dogbe, explained that members of the Presidential Press Envoy were not those involved in the accident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He thus described reports in sections of the media as &#8216;irresponsible.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Stan-Facebook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-159327 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Stan-Facebook.jpg\" alt=\"Stan Facebook\" width=\"470\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Stan-Facebook.jpg 470w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Stan-Facebook-256x300.jpg 256w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But speaking to <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> the Western Regional Chairman of the GJA, Moses Aklorbotu, said inasmuch as the clarity from Stan Dogbe was appropriate, he should have been sensitive to the plight of the injured journalists who only sought to inform Ghanaians about the president\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said Mr. Dogbe\u2019s concern was to merely insulate the presidency from the accident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t think this kind of head-on collision with the media and Stan Dogbe\u2019s alacrity to actually respond in such an aggressive manner to issues with regards to journalists will help anybody. We have to tango\u2026It was obvious that we were not invited but we as trained journalists are told when to nose around and get stories.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The President himself knows that we shouldn\u2019t be invited when we hear the news. The journalists came to the place and duly identified themselves. We agree that we have the presidential press corps that follows the President, and we in the region coordinate with them often when they get here,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Aklorbotu said the regional GJA will formally lodge a complaint to the national leadership for further action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026What he should have told us rather was to sympathize with my colleagues who provided coverage and told the people of Ghana that the 200 schools that the President promised, he is not sleeping and that he is working. I was not happy with the statement that the people were not part of the presidential press corps. It is good he said it; but he should remember that he was one of us. Let somebody else do it and let\u2019s talk about it and not a member of the media.
