{"id":156429,"date":"2015-10-01T14:45:04","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T14:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=156429"},"modified":"2015-10-01T14:50:25","modified_gmt":"2015-10-01T14:50:25","slug":"judicial-scandal-committee-suspends-sitting-for-a-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=156429","title":{"rendered":"Judicial scandal: Committee suspends sitting for a month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The five member committee investigating bribery allegations leveled against some 22 magistrates have adjourned their sittings for a month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;cG5kwxMr94UlDBTn0345us69GCIThQSj&#8221;]The committee was scheduled\u00a0to continue cross-examining undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas today [Thursday] after it <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/10\/01\/implicated-judges-face-investigative-cttee-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">resumed sitting\u00a0on Wednesday<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Fred Djabanor reported that the sitting was adjourned because \u201cAnas has written to the committee that he will be out of jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The committee resumed sitting after a High Court <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/29\/implicated-judges-ordered-to-reappear-before-investigative-cttee\/\" target=\"_blank\">struck out a case<\/a><\/strong><\/span> brought before it by some 14 implicated judges who were seeking to stop the committee&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 14 were praying the court to declare as illegal, the composition of the committee but their case was dismissed by Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In her ruling Justice Torkonoo said the Judicial Council was only performing its administrative role by appointing the committee to look into the matter, an action she says \u201ccannot be illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
