The first Lady Lordina Mahama has officially named Ghana’s Second Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Vessel, FPSO Prof. John Evans Atta Mills at a ceremony held at the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_2529\"<\/a>[contextly_sidebar id=”BKey6CfYM8jGPofrqIMZkpuSwN62qvdS”]Lordina Mahama, who led Ghana’s delegation to the naming ceremony, performed the symbolic act of breaking the bottle of Champagne to signify the naming of the vessel.<\/p>\n

According to her, the FPSO was named after Ghana’s late President Prof. Evans Atta Mills because he saw the birth of Ghana\u2019s offshore oil industry.<\/p>\n

The naming of the FPSO after him was also to pay tribute to his achievements and leadership.<\/p>\n

The FPSO, is expected to leave Singapore by close of 2015\u00a0for its six-week journey to Ghana.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_2600\"<\/a>The Chief Executive Officer of Tullow Oil Plc, Aiden Heavey, said Tullow was proud to be working with the government of Ghana to develop Ghana\u2019s fledging oil industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur corporate mission is to create shared prosperity through such projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the fast-track completion of the FPSO was made possible largely due to the hard work and dedication of MODEC (the primary engineering contractor for the construction of the FPSO).<\/p>\n

\"IMG_2737\"<\/a>The naming ceremony signified the readiness of the vessel to set sail for Ghana.<\/p>\n

It also means that the Ten Project Partners have reached an advanced phase of the efforts at producing oil from the Ten Field on schedule – by mid 2016.<\/p>\n

The Ten Field project is being managed by a partnership comprising Tullow Ghana Limited, Kosmos Energy, Anadarko Petroleum, PatroSA and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).<\/p>\n

\"IMG_2706\"<\/a>The partnership has a shareholding structure as follows: Tullow Oil (47.185 per cent), GNPC (15 per cent), Anadarko Petroleum (17 per cent), Kosmos (17 per cent) and PetroSA (3.815 per cent).<\/p>\n


\n<\/a>The FPSO is using the biggest turret ever constructed in the oil industry.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_2688\"<\/a>It has an oil processing capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil per day and a storage capacity of 1.7 million barrels.<\/p>\n

The FPSO is 56 metres wide and 340 metres in length, approximately the length of three football fields.<\/p>\n

Oil industry watchers say it is one of the fastest FPSO conversions ever of its size and complexity.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>It has 17 modules, weighing more than 12,500 tons installed on it.<\/p>\n

The modules include a water treatment plant, crude separation plant, chemical injection plant, gas processing and injection plant, the turret, electricity generation plant and a 120-room accommodation unit, among other facilities.<\/p>\n
