{"id":155752,"date":"2015-09-29T14:57:10","date_gmt":"2015-09-29T14:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=155752"},"modified":"2015-09-29T14:57:10","modified_gmt":"2015-09-29T14:57:10","slug":"lmvc-heads-to-supreme-court-over-police-injunction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=155752","title":{"rendered":"LMVC heads to Supreme Court over Police injunction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leaders of pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance say they will go to the Supreme Court to seek interpretation of the laws governing the conduct of demonstrations in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The group is unhappy about recent actions of the police relating to the use of court orders and injunctions to prevent them from picketing at the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;xrmcDPs6ogiVOAzUgFzmJ3uXVfb7yDhL&#8221;]The pro- opposition group was supposed to have embarked on a protest march for a new voters register today but a late court order <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/28\/police-secures-another-injunction-against-lmvc-demo\/\" target=\"_blank\">secured by the Police<\/a><\/strong><\/span> forced a change in their plans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at a Press Conference early on today, the Convener of the Alliance, David Asante stated that there is the need for clarification of the laws since the Police was increasingly denying citizens of their constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat we are going to the Supreme Court to do is to seek further interpretation and clarification whether the right to protest and to demonstrate has now been ceded from citizens to rest in the bosom of the police. What becomes of the rights to gather as citizens ? what has become of our constitutional right to embark on a demonstration.
