{"id":153658,"date":"2015-09-22T06:00:32","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T06:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=153658"},"modified":"2015-09-21T22:44:43","modified_gmt":"2015-09-21T22:44:43","slug":"bribery-scandal-high-court-to-hear-injunction-case-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=153658","title":{"rendered":"Anas video: High court to hear injunction case today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The High Court will today hear an application for interlocutory injunction brought by 14 magistrates indicted in the Anas corruption expose\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/11\/indicted-judges-sue-judicial-council-over-their-suspension\/\" target=\"_blank\">against the Judicial Service<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;S4t39aSjr7aDsQVOBkkXdZGVcorozjUb&#8221;]The magistrates are questioning the legality of the procedure employed by Judicial Service to suspend them as well as to investigate <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/11\/anas-corruption-video-22-judges-get-exclusive-viewing\/\" target=\"_blank\">allegations of corruption<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>against them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They argue that the investigative committee does not have the authority to sanction them and adding that it is only a court of competent jurisdiction that must try them before any sanction from the service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An investigative piece by investigative Journalist Anas Aremyaw Anas has revealed possible widespread corruption in the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some judges and staff of the Judicial Service were allegedly caught on tape receiving varying amounts of bribe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The committee set up by the Chief Justice to investigate the allegations last Friday <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/18\/judicial-scandal-committee-suspends-sitting\/\" target=\"_blank\">suspended its sittings<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>due to the pending court applications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the lawyers of the judges, Mark Diamond had told<strong> Citi News<\/strong> that\u00a0\u201cwe were saying that the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/18\/judicial-scandal-committee-suspends-sitting\/\" target=\"_blank\">procedure being used<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and the constitution of the panel itself is not in accordance with the law so we are asking that the matter be looked into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201cas at last week they [Judicial Committee] were not aware [of the application] but now they\u2019ve been served and they are now aware of the application.
