Northern Regional Minister, Limuna Mohammed Mumuni, has said government will continue to strengthen its relationship with West African Network for Peace Building (WANEP-Ghana) and other civil society organizations to help promote peace and prevent conflicts around the country.<\/p>\n
The Region, he said, was gracious to WANEP-Ghana for its conflict prevention roles.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mumuni called on various government agencies to collaborate with WANEP-Ghana to pickup early warning signals that will help the State respond appropriately to threats to national peace.<\/p>\n
The Minister\u2019s comments were in a speech read on his behalf by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, at WANEP-Ghana\u2019s Annual General Meeting in Tamale.<\/p>\n
The meeting, held\u00a0on Saturday, discussed various issues concerning peace building and its sustainability.<\/p>\n
It was on the theme: \u201cBuilding Strong Network for sustainable Peace-building in Ghana\u201dThe Tamale meeting brought together representatives of some civil society organizations across the country.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mumuni commended WANEP Ghana for pursuing goals and objectives that strengthen relationships between the state and civil society organisations in conflict prevention, resolution and management.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Regional Executive Director of WANEP, Emmanuel Bombande, underscored the importance of the Annual General Meeting, describing it as not only a mark of the strength of the institution but also an accountability mechanism that allows collective ownership of WANEP-Ghana and its objectives.<\/p>\n
In his welcome address, the Executive Committee Chairman of WANEP-Ghana, Mr. Shaibu Abubakar called on government to strengthen its partnership with organizations in peace building and human security to ensure a violence-free society for sustainable national development.<\/p>\n
He commended IBIS-Ghana for supporting the activities of WANEP-Ghana and called on other organizations to emulate them.<\/p>\n
WANEP-Ghana is a non-profit making non-governmental organisation. It seeks to facilitate the creation of a sustainable culture of non-violence, justice, peace and social reconciliation among Ghanaians and West Africans.
