Voting to elect new assembly members is currently underway in\u00a0polling centers across the country.<\/p>\n

The exercise which was expected to commence at 7am had to be delayed in some areas due to some administrative constraints.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

From the Volta Region<\/strong>, King Nobert Akpablie reported from the\u00a0Aflao-Ga-RC polling station\u00a0and other centres in the Ketu South district that turnout was low.<\/p>\n

“As at 8 am, only 17 out of the expected 920 voters had cast their ballot at the\u00a0Aflao-Ga-RC primary school,” he said.<\/p>\n

Loretta Tima, Citi FM’s\u00a0Ashanti regional<\/strong>\u00a0correspondent said in the Asokore Mampong electoral area, voting was underway and security detail at the polling stations had also been satisfactory.<\/p>\n

She however reported that people were going about their “normal business in Kumasi.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the\u00a0Upper West region,\u00a0<\/strong>Lattif Mahama\u00a0reported that voting in 4 out the 137 polling stations in the Wa municipality delayed until\u00a08am\u00a0because electoral\u00a0materials that were kept in the Upper West regional police headquarters had been destroyed after a heavy downpour on Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC),\u00a0Serebuor Kweku who confirmed the incident could however not confirm whether the affected polling stations would be given additional time to vote.<\/p>\n

High Voter Turnout<\/strong><\/p>\n

Latif however reported that some other areas in the region saw an impressive turnout as\u00a0most of the 19 polling stations he visited as at\u00a09:30am had\u00a0recorded over 100 voters.<\/p>\n

Over 380, 000 people are expected to vote in 951 polling stations at the 293 electoral areas of the Upper West region.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile reports reaching\u00a0citifmonline.com<\/strong>\u00a0indicate that voters at\u00a0the African Faith Tabernacle Church in the Kwabenya electoral area in Accra, were disappointed as they could not cast their vote.<\/p>\n

This was\u00a0due to the absence of the\u00a0polling officer for that centre.<\/p>\n

A voter who had been waiting for almost an hour fumed,”for me if I leave I won’t come again!”<\/p>\n

“In Ghana everything is poor,” another voter said.<\/p>\n

A total of 18,885 candidates are contesting in the District Assembly Elections and 43,585; the Unit Committee elections.<\/p>\n
