If you’ve used a Nintendo Wii Remote before, you may already be familiar with navigating the next Apple TV.<\/p>\n
For weeks, reports have said Apple’s new TV streaming box will include an upgraded remote that includes a trackpad. But it could also use Wii-like motion controls so you can point and click your way through the interface, according to a report by TechCrunch.<\/p>\n
Besides the trackpad, the remote is expected to pack physical buttons and a microphone for Siri integration. The A8 chip, currently inside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, could also make its way to the new streaming box as well.<\/p>\n
So what’s all this going to be used for? A long-rumored Apple TV SDK may debut alongside an app store, opening the gates to much more third-party software \u2014 likely games and entertainment apps.<\/p>\n
Those apps could be much more powerful than ones we’ve seen on mobile devices. The Apple TV wouldn’t have the battery constraints an iPhone might, so developers can push its resources as far as they’d like. Truly console-quality games might be within the realm of possibility.<\/p>\n
A central digital hub for the home has been the dream of many a tech company before. The new hardware is likely a trojan horse for Apple’s rumored television streaming service, said to be launching next year.<\/p>\n
We may not have to wait long before hearing official details straight from Apple. The company’s annual iPhone event is coming Sept. 9, which is where we’re likely to find out more about the company’s TV plans.<\/p>\n
