{"id":147063,"date":"2015-08-28T13:44:33","date_gmt":"2015-08-28T13:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=147063"},"modified":"2015-08-28T14:29:13","modified_gmt":"2015-08-28T14:29:13","slug":"amoateng-passport-trial-counsel-to-file-submission-of-no-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=147063","title":{"rendered":"Amoateng passport trial: Counsel to file submission of no case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">An Accra Circuit court presided over by Ellen Vivian Amoah has urged\u00a0 lawyers for former legislator Eric Amoateng to file a submission of no case involving a case in which he is being\u00a0tried for possessing a fake Ghanaian passport.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her comments followed the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/01\/26\/amoatengs-lawyer-angry-over-prosecutions-delay-tactics\/\" target=\"_blank\">failure of prosecutors<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>to present a forensic report the court ordered about four\u00a0months ago.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;GbHLIpBKytVTfe4F0TuJof3mrgU4nMQg&#8221;]Eric Amoateng was arrested and subsequently arraigned before court for possessing a fake passport when he returned to the country after serving a 10 year jail sentence for dealing in drugs in the United States.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The case has since been adjourned to the\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1248368187\"><span class=\"aQJ\">28th September,2015<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the prosecution, Amoateng was, on December 11, 2005, arrested in the United States for possessing heroin valued at $6 million. It said Amoateng was tried, convicted and subsequently sentenced to a 10-year prison term and was released on July 30, 2014.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">About 2.20 p.m. on August 7, 2014, Amoateng arrived at the Kotoka International Airport and during his arrival formalities, he was found to be in possession of a Ghanaian passport with the number H02347080.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The passport, the prosecution said, was in the name of one Barbara Inkum and was issued on February 23, 2009 at a time when Amoateng was in prison in the USA.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The prosecution said analysis of the passport by the Document Fraud Office of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) showed that the passport was a forged one as its bio data page had been substituted.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra Circuit court presided over by Ellen Vivian Amoah has urged\u00a0 lawyers for former legislator Eric Amoateng to file a submission of no case involving a case in which he is being\u00a0tried for possessing a fake Ghanaian passport.
