{"id":146423,"date":"2015-08-26T05:40:41","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T05:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=146423"},"modified":"2015-08-26T15:35:48","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T15:35:48","slug":"collaborate-to-combat-aids-unfpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=146423","title":{"rendered":"Collaborate to combat AIDS &#8211; UNFPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Babatunde Ahonsi is calling for a strong collaborative effort between leadership, science and human rights in combating HIV\/AIDS in Africa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, with the combination of these aspects of human life, Africa will be in the position to triumph in its fight against the deadly menace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_2141_533x400.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-146430 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_2141_533x400.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2141_533x400\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_2141_533x400.jpg 533w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_2141_533x400-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is estimated by the World Health Organisation that almost 25 million people are living with HIV\/AIDS in Africa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> at the International Conference on AIDS and STIs, Ahonsi re-echoed the relevance of political commitment in ensuring the success of HIV control programmes in countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe real linkage is that whatever we do in HIV Response must be backed by Science,in other words, knowledge and understanding of what works. Now that we are in the fourth decade of HIV response we know what works. We know that if the community is mobilized especially with people living with AIDS, it makes a difference. When the Science is deployed in the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes is where the leadership comes in.
