Amissah-Arthur has called on African government\u2019s to pursue the long term\u00a0interest of their people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Amissah-Arthur made the call when he addressed the Meles Zenawi Symposium on\u00a0Development in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;ASHCWXL4eIJAsF6gHO1xLYq77JjKxehg&#8221;]Inspired by the late Ethiopian Prime Minister\u2019s commitment to the state\u2019s prominent role in\u00a0building robust accountable institutions and facilitating rapid sustainable development, the\u00a0symposium aims at fostering rigorous intellectual debate on issues related to development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over 200 participants from all over Africa, including Rwanda\u2019s President Paul Kagame and Ethiopia\u2019s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn attended the symposium, which was on the theme \u201cAfrican Democratic Developmental State\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Addressing participants, Vice President Amissah-Arthur observed that the four-year term\u00a0mandate conferred by many democracies on the continent, in the short-term, makes governments that do not want to be unpopular step back from taking the tough decisions \u00a0that are necessary for the progress of the society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said leaders must not only prioritise but they must also build and develop institutional\u00a0systems that will allow for those priorities to continue even after a government has left office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Amissah-Arthur, who urged leaders to continue to find home-grown solutions to peculiar \u00a0problems, said regional integration must also continue to be high on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Credit: Flagstaff House<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President K.B.
