{"id":145260,"date":"2015-08-21T12:07:43","date_gmt":"2015-08-21T12:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=145260"},"modified":"2015-08-21T12:12:32","modified_gmt":"2015-08-21T12:12:32","slug":"we-were-surprised-by-charles-antwis-conviction-ags-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=145260","title":{"rendered":"We were surprised by Charles Antwi&#8217;s conviction &#8211; AG&#8217;s office"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>The office of the Attorney General (AG) has expressed surprised at the\u00a0conviction of Charles Antwi, the \u00a0gunman who confessed he wanted to assassinate President John Mahama.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;rtAA5nVGoMLKNOxm0bcUNo1MAbmDhpuL&#8221;]According to the Director of Public Prosecution at the AG&#8217;s office, Yvonne Atakora Oboubisa, the convict, Charles\u00a0Antwi was on the day of his conviction sent to court to be only remanded in lawful custody for further investigations.<\/p>\n<p>She made this revelation in court on Friday, in a case filed by public interest lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu at the Human Rights court for\u00a0a\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/01\/lawyer-to-file-application-to-quash-charles-antwi-ruling\/\">review<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>of the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/28\/gunman-in-mahamas-church-jailed-10-years\/\">10 year conviction<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0of Charles\u00a0Antwi.<\/p>\n<p>The AG also filed an application yesterday asking the High Court to\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/20\/ag-files-writ-to-challenge-sentencing-of-gunman\/\">overturn<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0the ruling of the circuit court.<\/p>\n<p>36-year-old Antwi was\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/26\/man-with-gun-arrested-in-president-mahamas-church\/\">arrested<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0by the BNI for the illegal possession of a fully loaded gun.<\/p>\n<p>After interrogations, he confessed of planning to kill President Mahama.<\/p>\n<p>An Accra circuit court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri on Tuesday July 28, found him guilty of unlawful possession of fire arm and jailed him to 10 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The office of the Attorney General (AG) has expressed surprised at the\u00a0conviction of Charles Antwi, the \u00a0gunman who confessed he wanted to assassinate President John Mahama.
